This Youth Cup was created together with the sponsor Red Bull, to empower young people and give them the opportunity to enter eventually later the America's Cup. The conditions for a team are: Age: 19-24 / 2013, a crew of six sailors, valid passport of the registered country, an affiliation to a present AC World Series team, or to buy an AC45 with an automatic registration, or a registration and a qualification in the selection series. More than 20 teams had registered, of which 12 were shortlisted. The Austrians and twice Olympic gold medal winner in the Tornado class, Roman Hagara and Hans-Peter Steinacher manage as sports directors the RBYAC. The sailors meet high requirements. The AC45 catamarans The equipment and the catamarans will be provided to teams by the Cup organisation.. They are the same boats that sailed in the AC World Series. You will be equipped the same and have largely the same design. 6 additional teams are nominated by the AC45 World Series teams and will also compete in September 2013: The schedule for 2013: 9 to 24 February 2013 - Red Bull Youth America's Cup Selection Series in San Francisco 1 to 4 September 2013 - Red Bull Youth America's Cup in San Francisco .

On 17 May 2012 the first Red Bull AC45 was presented in San Francisco.
On the same day a more AC45 was launched in Venice.
The Austrian team of Vorarlberg in the race with the Full Metal Jackets from New Zealand. The Austrians capsized and could not qualify for the 10 teams challenging for the Red Bull Youth America's Cup in September 2013
All young teams had surprisingly quickly adapted to the AC45.
